Full details
This per diem Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist role at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, a non-profit community teaching hospital in Jamaica Plain, covers the pre-operative, intra-operative and immediate post-operative care of patients who need anesthesia for surgical, medical, therapeutic or diagnostic procedures. Duties include pre-anesthesia assessments, anesthetic care plans, airway management, general and regional anesthesia, monitored anesthetic care, emergence care and post-operative assessments made alongside an anesthesiology physician. Care is delivered in the hospital's 16 main operating rooms and in designated out-of-OR locations such as Radiology, the cardiac cath lab, CT, MRI and endoscopy.
The schedule is per diem, with day shifts offered in several lengths. The role does not involve call, holidays or weekends, and the posting's stated pay rate is $200.00 an hour as the per diem rate. The hospital notes that the listed pay range is an estimate tied to minimum qualifications, and that differentials, premiums and bonuses may apply.
Applicants need a master's degree as a nurse anesthesia practitioner, state licensure as a registered professional nurse, and compliance with Massachusetts rules for advanced practice nurse anesthesia. They must also have graduated from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the NBCRNA or its predecessor, hold current certification or recertification through the Council on Certification or Council on Recertification, and carry BLS and ACLS credentials. Experience as a CRNA or as a new graduate with zero to one year is preferred, and proficiency in a language spoken by patients is desired.
Strong candidates show solid knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and related sciences, the ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced setting, and calm judgment in emergencies. The role calls for clear communication with patients, surgeons and staff, careful medical history-taking, adherence to quality control standards, and ongoing attention to current anesthesia practice. Work environments can be crowded, warm or cold, and include radiation-emitting and other specialized equipment.
