Full details
UVA Health's University Medical Center is growing its Perioperative Services and is recruiting part-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists to cover extended-hour operating room shifts, Saturday elective cases, and continued OR expansion across several surgical sites. The effort supports the health system's bridge strategy through 2027, shifting anesthesia coverage away from incentive-based arrangements toward a stable employed CRNA workforce. Practice takes place within a collaborative Anesthesia Care Team at an academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center, where CRNAs are given considerable independence and the chance to work at the full extent of their license.
The caseload is varied and complex. It spans the main operating room, where acuity is high and trauma cases arrive, as well as outpatient and ambulatory surgery centers, endoscopy and procedural suites, and off-site non-OR anesthesia locations.
Positions are offered part-time, weekend-focused, or on a wage or PRN basis. The role carries no call obligation, holiday and weekend work is optional, and shift differentials are available. Other perks noted include schedule flexibility, a mentorship program for new graduates, leadership and quality improvement pathways, and AANA-approved CEU credits. The posted hourly pay is $119.50 to $157.68, depending on experience, and a separate range of $100.96 to $124.74 per hour is also listed, with final pay set by the candidate's qualifications, prior experience, and education.
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, generous paid time off, retirement savings, short- and long-term disability, health savings and flexible spending accounts, and support for certification and education. Charlottesville sits near the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park and offers dining, wineries, arts, and a walkable downtown.
Candidates need a Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited program, or eligibility to practice as a CRNA in Virginia, along with a Virginia RN license, a Virginia nurse practitioner license, Virginia CRNA certification, and AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification. No prior experience is required. The job involves prolonged sitting, frequent bending and reaching, repetitive hand motion, lifting or moving loads of 50 to over 100 pounds, and possible exposure to fumes, body fluids, and infectious disease. Background checks, pre-employment health screenings, and a drug screen are required before hire.
