Full details

Sanford Health, a large rural health system in the United States, has a CRNA opening in its anesthesia department. The role is a varied-shift position of 8 hours, with 40 scheduled hours per week, and it is not a union position.

The department includes nearly 100 CRNAs and 25 anesthesiologists who together handle 30,000 cases a year. The campus is expanding, and the caseload spans orthopedics, general surgery, cardiothoracic, neurology, ENT, GI, vascular, pediatrics, urology and robotics.

The CRNA will administer anesthesia or sedation for surgical and non-surgical procedures. Responsibilities include developing a pre-anesthetic plan, writing orders before, during and after procedures, and ordering and reviewing diagnostic tests as needed. The role also involves monitoring patients, including hemodynamic monitoring, and adjusting care to match the anesthesia plan.

The CRNA works alongside other providers caring for each patient and communicates with patients, families and the wider health care team. The position calls for the ability to work with the growth and development needs of all client populations.

Applicants need a bachelor's degree in nursing from an approved, accredited program in an advanced practice specialty. A master's degree, DNP or PhD is preferred. A current, unencumbered license to practice as a CRNA from the state board of nursing is required, along with multi-state licensure privileges where the position requires them. CRNA certification from the NBCRNA must be obtained and maintained, and department-specific competencies must be completed and kept current. ACLS certification is preferred.

Privileging documents and credentialing requirements take precedence over this description in setting minimum qualifications and scope of practice where the two differ.
