Full details

Working under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, the CRNA provides general and regional anesthesia for surgical, obstetrical and other procedures requiring anesthesia care. Patients served span every age group, from neonates and children through adolescents, adults and older adults, and care follows hospital and departmental standards. Clinical work covers airway management, fluid and hemodynamic balance, patient monitoring, emergency response including airway crises and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and care of patients on mechanical ventilation.

Core duties include reviewing charts and interviewing and examining patients before surgery, then choosing an anesthetic plan together with the anesthesiologist. The CRNA reviews each patient's response to premedication, coordinates concerns with the surgeon and anesthesiologist, and checks equipment daily and between cases. Intraoperative monitoring, post-operative assessment within 24 hours, and stabilization of patients are also part of the role, along with preparing medications and keeping an accurate count of controlled substances.

The position also involves precepting student nurse anesthetists, maintaining department equipment and supplies, and working within delineated clinical privileges. The CRNA is expected to follow organizational policies, accreditation and state regulatory requirements, and to maintain courteous working relationships with patients, colleagues and the public. This per diem role is based in the South Bay/Harbor City area and may include other duties within the scope of the CRNA's licensure and certification.
