Full details

This per diem position is based in Orange County, near Anaheim, and calls for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who works under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist. The nurse anesthetist gives general and regional anesthesia across surgical and obstetric cases, as well as other procedures needing anesthesia care, for patients from neonates through geriatric age groups, following hospital and departmental standards of care.

Responsibilities include airway management, fluid and hemodynamic balance, patient monitoring, and responding to airway emergencies and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, along with managing ventilated patients. Before surgery, the nurse anesthetist interviews and examines each patient, reviews the chart, and chooses an anesthetic plan with the anesthesiologist. During and after procedures, the nurse anesthetist watches the patient closely, takes action to keep them stable, and evaluates them again within 24 hours after surgery.

Other duties include checking and maintaining anesthesia equipment daily and between cases, preparing medications, keeping an accurate record of controlled substances, and teaching student nurse anesthetists. The nurse anesthetist must follow organizational policies, accreditation standards, state regulations, and departmental rules, and must work within the scope of their license and granted clinical privileges. Courteous, cooperative communication with patients, surgeons, staff, and other personnel is expected, along with any other duties within their certification and scope.
