The nurse delivers general and regional anesthesia for surgical, obstetrical and other procedures requiring anesthesia, caring for patients from neonates through geriatric patients. Care includes airway management, fluid and homeostasis maintenance, monitoring, emergency airway and cardiopulmonary resuscitation response, and ventilator management, all held to hospital and departmental standards.

Core duties include a pre-operative evaluation through patient interview, examination and chart review, then selecting an anesthetic with the physician. The nurse checks anesthesia equipment daily and between cases, prepares medications, and monitors patients during surgery.
