Full details

Working under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, the CRNA provides general and regional anesthesia for surgical, obstetrical and other procedures requiring anesthesia care. Patients served span neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups, and care follows hospital and departmental standards. Duties include airway management, fluid and hemodynamic balance, patient monitoring, emergency response including resuscitation, and ventilator management.

Before surgery, the nurse interviews and examines each patient, reviews the chart, and selects an anesthetic plan with the anesthesiologist. The role also involves checking equipment daily and between cases, preparing medications, and tracking controlled substances according to department guidelines.

The position includes precepting student nurse anesthetists and maintaining equipment and supplies under department policy. Anesthesia is administered within the provider's delineated clinical privileges, and all work must follow the organization's policies, accreditation standards, state regulations and applicable laws. The nurse is expected to maintain courteous, cooperative working relationships with patients, staff and the public, and may take on other duties within the scope of licensure.
