Full details

The role sits within the anesthesiology department of University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, a hospital the posting describes as regionally recognized for over two decades. The department emphasizes advanced anesthesia technology, faculty development in areas such as ultrasound and simulation, and a strong focus on quality, safety, and clinical research supported by a perioperative data warehouse and membership in MPOG. Benefits cited include tuition remission for faculty and dependents, loan forgiveness, competitive pay, and growth opportunities.

CRNAs in this group deliver anesthesia and pain care alongside anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other clinicians, and are expected to contribute to the department's teaching, safety, quality, and research work. Patients range across all acuity levels and ages, with care delivered mainly in the BWMC operating rooms and other procedural areas. Obstetric and regional anesthesia practice is available as well. The practice model involves varied medical direction and supervision arrangements.

Essential duties include pre-anesthetic evaluation, ordering and reviewing relevant diagnostic tests, and obtaining informed consent. The CRNA builds and carries out an individualized anesthetic plan, places invasive lines, prepares and gives anesthetic agents, and may perform regional blocks. Responsibilities also cover induction, ventilation, emergence, and post-anesthesia care, along with invasive and noninvasive intraoperative monitoring. The CRNA manages fluid, blood, electrolyte, and acid-base status, reports changes to the supervising anesthesiologist or surgeon, and handles emergencies including airway management and advanced or basic life support.

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited nursing school and an accredited nurse anesthesia program, along with current certification as a CRNA from the AANA by the start date. A valid state RN license is required, plus state APRN recognition that must be obtained within six months of hire. Current ACLS and BLS certifications are needed, and an NPI and taxonomy code must be in place at hire. Two years of acute-setting anesthesia experience is preferred but not required.

The posted base salary range is 230,000 to 290,000 or more, reflecting the low and high ends of the salary range for this position at the employer's faculty practice. Final pay within that range depends on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility, and education. Details of the total benefits package are available through the employer's benefits summary.
