Full details

The schedule is 13.5-hour shifts. MUSC University Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, a Level I trauma center within a large academic medical environment, is seeking CRNAs ranging from experienced practitioners to recent graduates. The anesthesia group numbers about 50 professionals, many of whom have built long tenures at the institution.

Anesthesia services span 21 operating rooms and 10 non-operating room anesthesia sites. Cases cover trauma, transplant, orthopedics, neurosurgery, ENT, urology, gynecology, robotic procedures, and burn care, with further exposure available in CT, MRI, bronchoscopy, neuroangiography, and interventional radiology.

The CRNA works under the clinical oversight of an anesthesiologist and administrative direction from CRNA leadership. Responsibilities include preoperative evaluation, delivering and monitoring anesthesia, postoperative assessment, and working alongside surgeons, residents, and other care teams.

Weekend, holiday, and overnight coverage is largely volunteer-based and supplemented by designated night staff.

Compensation includes a $50,000 sign-on bonus for eligible external candidates who commit to three years, an additional stipend for the University Hospital location, and the possibility of annual performance-based raises. Benefits include state retirement options, comprehensive coverage, continuing education time and funding, paid parental leave, and potential eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Candidates must hold a degree from a COA-accredited nurse anesthesia program, with a master's or higher in nurse anesthesia required for hires after March 1, 2019. NBCRNA certification or recertification is needed, or eligibility for new graduates. Applicants also need South Carolina APRN authorization or eligibility to obtain it, current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers certification, demonstrated clinical competence, and eligibility for professional malpractice coverage.

The role involves prolonged standing, sitting, or walking, frequent fine hand movements, and corrected vision and hearing standards.
