The anesthetist renders patients insensitive to pain using anesthetic agents and related procedures to support diagnostic, therapeutic, or surgical care. Responsibilities include pre-anesthesia assessment, reviewing orders, obtaining informed consent, positioning patients safely, choosing techniques such as general, regional, local, or sedation, and managing airway and cardiopulmonary status. The role also covers emergence and recovery, discharge with a summary of the patient's history and surgical events, peripheral and arterial line placement, arterial blood sampling, and participation in resuscitation. Providers respond to pain-related consultations, support other patient care areas, precept students and orientees, take on charge duties when assigned, and help start improvement efforts.

Candidates need a bachelor's degree, graduation from an accredited nursing program, and a master's degree from a nurse anesthetist program. Two or more years of work as a CRNA is preferred. Required credentials include a Minnesota RN license and a Minnesota CRNA registration, both needed by hire, along with ACLS and PALS certifications through Multisource. The physical demands are medium work, with lifting up to 32 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently under the organization's safe patient moving policy.

The advertised base pay is $130.00 to $140.00 per hour. Actual starting pay depends on factors such as experience, education, and any applicable union agreement, and shift or weekend differentials may apply. Benefits listed include medical and dental coverage, paid time away, retirement savings, life and disability insurance, voluntary vision, legal, and critical illness plans, tuition or continuing education support, student loan assistance including public service loan forgiveness eligibility, and well-being resources. Benefit eligibility depends on FTE and union status. The employer is a 501(c)(3) eligible organization.
