Full details
This full-time daytime position at Jackson South M.C. in Miami, FL involves providing anesthesia under medical direction for a wide range of surgical cases, using inhalation, intravenous, spinal, or rectal agents. The CRNA concentrates on skillfully applying sound professional techniques, continuously reviewing the condition of anesthetized patients during surgery, and carrying out corrective measures when clinical conditions turn unfavorable. The role also covers pre-anesthetic evaluation and documentation, preparing a patient-specific anesthesia plan with the attending anesthesiologist, and care before and after anesthesia. All procedures remain under the supervision of the attending anesthesiologist assigned to the area.
Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring and adjusting patients' physiologic status, recognizing and responding to abnormal reactions to anesthesia and adjunct medications, and observing and resuscitating patients on the way to recovery or a special care unit. The CRNA hands off clear, thorough anesthesia reports to recovery or unit nurses and transfers post-operative care to other qualified providers. In the absence of the Chief CRNA, the incumbent manages daily operational and administrative duties independently. The position also includes clinical education of student registered nurse anesthetists, staying current with anesthesia literature, suggesting care improvements, and following unit-specific policies and competency checklists.
Candidates should hold a master's degree in nursing and generally bring one to three years of related experience. A valid Florida license as an RN/CRNA, or eligibility for licensure as a CRNA or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, is required, along with National Board Certification from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications are listed as unit requirements, with BLS needing at least six months of validity at hire. The work is fast-paced, with occasional emergencies, frequent contact with varied staff and patients, and exposure to hospital hazards, and it requires extended standing, lifting of up to 100 pounds with equipment, and the use of PPE.
