Full details
This per diem, on-call pool position at Jackson West Medical Center in Miami, FL, has a CRNA administering anesthesia under medical direction for a wide range of surgical cases, using inhaled, intravenous, spinal, or rectal agents. The work centers on applying sound professional technique, continuously watching the condition of anesthetized patients, and carrying out corrective measures when clinical conditions turn unfavorable. The CRNA also handles immediate pre-operative and post-operative care during the induction and emergence phases. All techniques remain under the oversight of the attending anesthesiologist assigned to the area.
Day-to-day duties include completing and accurately charting each patient's pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation, and building a patient-specific anesthesia plan with the attending. The CRNA implements, monitors, and adjusts physiologic status to fit the anesthetic and the individual patient, recognizes abnormal reactions to anesthesia and adjunct drugs, and acts on them promptly. Observation and resuscitation during transport to recovery or a special care unit follow protocol, and a thorough anesthesia handoff is given to the receiving nurse before care is transferred to other qualified providers.
When the Chief CRNA is absent, the CRNA manages daily operational and administrative tasks independently. Additional responsibilities within the CRNA's expertise may be assigned. The role also includes professional growth for oneself and others, reviewing anesthesia literature to propose improvements in care standards, and serving as a clinical educator for student registered nurse anesthetists. Unit-specific policies, competency checklists, and equipment are to be followed, and the CRNA is expected to model the organization's CARE values of compassion, accountability, respect, and expertise.
The position calls for 1 to 3 years of related experience, generally. A master's degree in nursing is required. Candidates need a valid Florida RN/CRNA license or eligibility for CRNA licensure, National Board certification from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, current BLS, ACLS, and PALS, and any other applicable life support credential, with BLS valid at least six months at hire and maintained throughout employment.
The work runs in a fast-paced setting with occasional emergencies and frequent contact with clinicians, patients, families, and insurers. It involves extended standing or walking, lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with equipment, and frequent computer use. Exposure to infectious disease, medical gases, and other hospital hazards is possible, and personal protective equipment must be worn in clinical areas. Reasonable accommodations are available through the home unit in coordination with the Reasonable Accommodations Committee.
