Full details
This part-time, benefits-eligible role at Jackson South M.C. in Miami, FL, is based in the Anesthesia Unit and involves weekend shifts. The CRNA delivers anesthesia under medical direction for a varied range of surgical cases, using inhalation, intravenous, spinal, or rectal agents. The work centers on applying suitable professional techniques, continuously reviewing the condition of anesthetized patients, and carrying out corrective measures when clinical conditions turn unfavorable. The CRNA also handles preoperative and postoperative care for patients entering and leaving anesthesia, and all techniques remain subject to supervision by the Attending Anesthesiologist assigned to the area.
Core duties include documenting pre-anesthetic evaluations, building a patient-specific anesthesia plan with the attending anesthesiologist, and monitoring and adjusting physiologic status to match the anesthesia type and each patient's needs. The CRNA must recognize abnormal reactions to anesthesia and adjunct medications, respond appropriately, and set priorities under pressure. Patients are observed and resuscitated as needed during transport to recovery or a special care unit, a clear anesthesia report is handed to the receiving nurse, and post-operative care is transferred to other qualified providers. The role also supports operating room procedures and keeps patients informed about their condition and treatment.
When the Chief CRNA is absent, the CRNA manages day-to-day operational and administrative tasks independently and may take on other responsibilities within their expertise. The position includes pursuing professional growth, reviewing anesthesia literature to recommend improvements in care standards, and serving as a clinical educator for student registered nurse anesthetists. The CRNA follows unit-specific policies and the unit competency checklist, uses job-specific equipment, and models the organization's service and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
Qualifications include a master's degree in nursing, generally one to three years of related experience, and a valid Florida RN/CRNA license or eligibility for licensure as a CRNA or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. National Board Certification from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists is needed, along with BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. BLS must be obtained at hire with at least six months of validity and maintained throughout employment. The role also calls for strong communication, sound independent judgment, and the ability to stay composed in stressful situations.
Physical demands include extended standing or walking, lifting 21 to 50 pounds, and moving up to 100 pounds with suitable devices. The work is fast-paced, with occasional emergencies, and involves frequent contact with patients, families, physicians, and other staff. The CRNA may be exposed to communicable diseases, medical gases, needle sticks, and other hospital hazards and must wear personal protective equipment in clinical settings. Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
