The Assistant Chief CRNA in Sacramento oversees nurse anesthetist services and daily operations. The role involves helping with recruitment and retention, shaping staffing models and clinical workflows, working alongside interdisciplinary partners, putting protocols and performance standards into practice, giving input on budgeting and resource allocation, and encouraging professional growth across the team.

Clinically, the position delivers and supervises safe, effective anesthesia care through all phases of a patient's surgical course. Responsibilities include building individualized care plans, providing expertise for high-risk and emergency cases, explaining anesthetic plans, risks and postoperative expectations to patients and their families, and demonstrating culturally competent, patient-centered practice.

The Assistant Chief CRNA also supports documentation accuracy, survey readiness and continuous improvement. Duties include keeping anesthesia records accurate and timely, preparing audit materials and reports, reviewing patient care data such as outcomes, satisfaction scores and complication rates, assessing new anesthesia technologies, and helping leadership keep the department aligned with institutional policies, state rules and national standards from bodies such as AANA, ASA and The Joint Commission.

Further quality work includes applying evidence-based protocols and safety checklists, contributing to quality assurance initiatives, case reviews and peer review. The role also covers mentoring and training anesthesia staff through case discussions and continuing education, and may involve coordinating clinical rotations for anesthesia students from accredited programs.
