Full details

The Medical University of South Carolina is recruiting a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for its Children's Ambulatory Center at R. Keith Summey Medical Pavilion in North Charleston, South Carolina. The position is a staff role paid hourly, and it centers on delivering anesthesia to pediatric patients across a range of outpatient surgical and diagnostic procedures, with some adult cases as well. Both experienced CRNAs and recent graduates are invited to apply.

Anesthesia work at the pavilion spans ophthalmology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, ENT, urology, general surgery, dental and oral surgery, and MRI and CT imaging, plus adult general surgery and gynecology. Duties include preoperative assessment, administering and monitoring anesthesia, postoperative evaluation, and working alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other care teams. CRNAs work under the clinical supervision of an anesthesiologist and the administrative oversight of CRNA leadership.

Candidates should hold a degree from a COA-accredited nurse anesthesia program, with a master's or higher in nurse anesthesia required for anyone hired after March 1, 2019. They need NBCRNA certification or recertification, or the applicable eligibility for new graduates, along with South Carolina APRN authorization or eligibility to obtain it. A current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card, demonstrated clinical competence, equipment proficiency, and eligibility for professional malpractice coverage are also expected.

Benefits include performance-based pay increases each year, state retirement options, and comprehensive coverage. The employer offers continuing education time and financial help, paid parental leave, and possible eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. The schedule is described as flexible.

The job is physically demanding: it involves long periods of standing, sitting, or walking, frequent fine hand work, and lifting or pushing patients and equipment, with occasional stair climbing and outdoor work. Employees may be asked to work rotating shifts and overtime when needed, and the role requires the ability to handle stressful situations.
