Full details
This PRN position at the LeBonheur East Surgery Center is for a pediatric Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, who would keep routine clinical duties while also taking responsibility for all quality initiatives. The role involves working with hospital medical staff and administration to promote safe, high-quality, cost-effective anesthetic care. The facility was named a Leapfrog Top Ambulatory Surgery Center in 2021, one of only 13 chosen nationally, and the award reflects verified performance in areas such as staffing, patient experience, hand hygiene, surgical checklists, and error prevention.
The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 7am to 3pm on an as-needed basis. The case mix covers pediatrics and all specialties. Malpractice professional liability coverage is provided by LifeLinc, the anesthesia management company that is recruiting for the position.
The CRNA's clinical work includes pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation, requesting consultations and diagnostic studies, ordering or giving pre-anesthetic medications and fluids, and obtaining informed consent. The day-to-day work centers on conscious sedation and MAC anesthesia for outpatient and inpatient cases. Other responsibilities include airway management, overseeing emergence and recovery, discharging patients from the post-anesthesia care area, providing follow-up care for anesthesia side effects, and responding to emergencies with airway support, emergency drugs or fluids, and cardiac life support.
Administrative duties include working as a collaborator and team member, developing standards for continuity of care and case management, and staying current with AANA rules and local, state, and federal regulations. The CRNA attends meetings as needed, resolves open issues with colleagues, and supports department teamwork. The role also requires strict adherence to HIPAA confidentiality rules and completion of the annual HIPAA compliance exam.
Candidates must be able to read and write English, write routine reports, present information to supervisors, patients, families, and staff, and work in a team-oriented setting. General computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office are expected. Required education includes graduation from an approved nursing school and from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the AANA Council on Accreditation, along with successful completion of AANA certification. Additional requirements include at least two years of independent experience and ACLS, BLS, and PALS certification.
