The UAB Division of Community Anesthesia pairs anesthesiologists with CRNAs to deliver anesthesia services at UAB St. Vincent's East, an acute care hospital northeast of Birmingham near Trussville. The division brings an academic, evidence-based approach to busy community hospital operating rooms, and CRNAs in the group are granted autonomy while working collegially with anesthesiologists and surgeons. The schedule is flexible and PRN.

The hospital offers many surgical specialties, including orthopaedics, cardiac, GI and urologic procedures, along with a range of ambulatory diagnostic services. The division supports more than 10,000 procedures a year across 12 operating rooms, with six anesthesiologists and more than 19 CRNAs working together.

The role involves providing anesthesia under an anesthesiologist's direction for a variety of surgical procedures and diagnostic tests, and it includes taking part in the clinical teaching of nurse anesthesia students. All duties are carried out under the anesthesiologists' direction and in line with the Department of Anesthesiology's policies and procedures.

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nurse anesthesia program and hold an Alabama CRNA license. Current BLS and ACLS certifications are also required.
