Full details

Working under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, the CRNA provides general and regional anesthesia for surgical, obstetrical and other procedures that call for anesthesia care. Patients range from neonates and children to adolescents, adults and older adults, and care follows hospital and department standards. Duties include managing the airway, keeping fluids and physiologic balance steady, monitoring patients, responding to airway emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest, and managing ventilated patients.

Before surgery, the nurse interviews and examines each patient, reviews the chart, and helps the anesthesiologist choose the anesthetic plan. During the case the nurse watches the patient closely and adjusts care as conditions change. Afterward, the nurse assesses patients within the first day following the procedure and acts to preserve their stability.

The role also includes checking and preparing equipment and drugs, keeping an accurate count of controlled substances, maintaining supplies, and working within granted clinical privileges. The CRNA teaches student nurse anesthetists, communicates concerns with surgeons and anesthesiologists, and follows Joint Commission, Title 22 and other applicable rules and policies. Other duties within the scope of licensure may be assigned.

This per diem opening is in Orange County, and the posting describes the position as per diem.
