Full details

This is a part-time, as-needed (PRN) position for a CRNA in the Anesthesiology department at Illinois Masonic in Chicago, Illinois, part of Advocate Health. The role is not benefits eligible, and the posted pay range is $175.00 to $175.00 per the listing.

The CRNA provides general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care, including inducing and maintaining anesthesia, supporting life functions, documenting key events, and responding to abnormal patient reactions. Pre-anesthesia work includes confirming a physician's pre-anesthetic evaluation, making sure required tests are done, reviewing the patient just before induction, and checking equipment. After the procedure, the CRNA stays with the patient until care can safely be handed off, advises post-anesthesia staff, manages post-operative epidural and other analgesia with the surgeon, and follows up on anesthesia-related complications. Additional duties include narcotic accounting and distribution, responding to Code Blue and respiratory emergencies, helping place difficult IVs when requested, and providing labor analgesia in the Birth Day Center.

Coverage may include 24/7 call and weekends as the department needs. The role also calls for ongoing knowledge of current practice, participation in departmental improvement processes when appropriate, and the ability to care for patients across all ages.

Required credentials include a Registered Nurse license and a CRNA certification, plus an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license, a DEA registration, and PALS, ACLS, or NRP certification, with the certifications to be obtained within six months unless the department leader waives them. A master's degree in nursing is required, and no prior experience is needed.

Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lifting up to 20 pounds overhead, carrying up to 40 pounds, pushing or pulling with 30 pounds of force, and assisting with sliding transfers of 150 pounds alongside a second person. The work involves frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching, use of foot pedals, and exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and blood-borne hazards, with gloves, goggles, and gowns worn as needed.
