Full details

This full-time day-shift opening at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis is for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist focused on pediatric patients. The CRNA is an advanced practice nurse who works both independently and alongside other providers on the interprofessional team, delivering anesthesia and pain care across all acuity levels and age groups in surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic, therapeutic and pain management settings.

Day-to-day responsibilities include completing preanesthesia evaluations, obtaining informed consent, ordering and reviewing labs and diagnostics, and building the anesthetic care plan. The role also covers selecting and running monitors, equipment and medications, managing the airway including fiberoptic intubation, guiding emergence and recovery, overseeing postanesthesia care and discharge, placing regional techniques within granted privileges, handling acute and chronic pain, responding to emergencies with advanced resuscitation skills, and taking part in quality improvement work that meets hospital and accreditation standards.

Candidates need an RN license and APRN authorization in Tennessee, along with CRNA certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. Current BLS, ACLS and PALS credentials from the American Heart Association are also required, and a nurse anesthesia technical degree or diploma is required. Prior work experience is not necessary. The position requires knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan, strong communication and record-keeping habits, and the ability to act quickly in emergencies. Physical demands are medium-level, with frequent patient contact and possible exposure to body fluids.

The position carries no supervisory duties. The employer describes its culture as built on compassion, service and excellence, and notes that Memphis offers a growing downtown and a lower cost of living.
