Full details
This full-time day-shift opening is for a Cardiovascular Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in Memphis, serving a health system that has cared for the Memphis and Mid-South community for more than a century. The CRNA works as an advanced practice registered nurse, practicing independently and alongside other providers on an interprofessional team to deliver evidence-based anesthesia and pain care. Patients range across all acuity levels and ages and undergo surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic, therapeutic and pain procedures.
Responsibilities include completing preanesthesia evaluations, obtaining informed consent, ordering and reviewing labs and diagnostic studies, and building the anesthesia care plan. The CRNA selects and prepares equipment, monitors and medications, administers anesthetic and adjuvant agents, and manages airway care, including fiberoptic intubation. Other duties cover emergence and recovery, post-anesthesia cardiovascular and respiratory support, discharge from the recovery unit, acute and chronic pain management, placement of regional techniques within granted privileges, and emergency response using advanced and basic life support. The role also takes part in quality improvement work aimed at meeting hospital and accreditation standards.
Candidates need a doctorate in nurse anesthesia and no prior work experience is required. Required credentials include CRNA certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists, an advanced practice nurse license in Tennessee, and registered nurse licenses in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. Current ACLS, PALS and BLS certifications from the American Heart Association are also needed. The position carries no supervisory responsibility.
The job is physically active, involving frequent patient contact, standing, walking and quick reactions in emergencies, and it requires good balance, coordination and close vision. Staff may be exposed to body fluids and hazardous materials. The employer describes its culture as built on compassion, service and excellence, and it notes that Memphis offers a growing downtown, a low cost of living and one of the South's largest medical centers.
