Full details
This contingent, part-time CRNA position sits in the Anesthesiology department at Trinity Health. Working under an anesthesiologist's medical direction, the nurse anesthetist designs the anesthetic plan, delivers anesthesia in assigned areas, and watches each patient's physiological status, taking corrective steps directly or as the physician instructs. The role also covers pre- and post-operative assessments on assigned cases, with thorough entries in the electronic medical record.
Day-to-day responsibilities include delivering safe, individualized care that accounts for each patient's age, developmental stage, and cultural background. The nurse anesthetist prepares supplies, medications, and equipment for every case and checks that equipment works before surgery. Before each procedure, the nurse reviews charts, confirms the patient's medical condition, plans the anesthetic with the anesthesiologist, and secures or verifies intravenous access. When trained and credentialed, the nurse may place arterial lines, perform spinal anesthesia, and administer IV regional anesthesia. Emergency airway support is provided across the facility when requested, including intubation and the management of blood, fluid, electrolyte, cardiovascular, and respiratory needs. The nurse also recognizes and treats emergencies, judges recovery readiness, and reverses muscle relaxants or opioids as needed, recording all activity on the anesthetic or medical record.
Required education includes a bachelor's degree in nursing and graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia program with a master's degree or PhD. Candidates need CRNA certification and an RN license plus a CRNA specialty license in Michigan, or must obtain the state license within six months of hire. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are also required. Prior experience is preferred but not mandatory.
Benefits begin on the first day, with no waiting period, and include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and a retirement savings plan with employer matching and contributions. The position also offers daily pay access, tuition reimbursement, and room to advance within SJMHS and Trinity Health, along with competitive compensation.
