Full details

A sign-on incentive of up to $45,000 is available to newly hired CRNAs at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. Student nurse anesthetists who join the team may also receive a monthly stipend through an Earn To Learn arrangement.

Shifts are offered in several patterns: five 8-hour days, four 10-hour days, or three 13-hour days. The position carries no on-call, weekend, or holiday obligations, though staff may pick up additional shifts if they wish. Benefits for eligible roles include strong tuition and education support, generous paid time off, employee assistance and wellness offerings, paid parental leave, and eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) credit as a qualifying employer, among other perks.

The UAB Division of Community Anesthesia brings anesthesiologists and CRNAs together to serve several UAB St. Vincent's facilities, giving community hospitals access to an academic approach to evidence-based care. CRNAs in the division work with considerable independence and collaborate closely with anesthesiologists and surgeons. Services are delivered on the Birmingham campus near downtown and in adjoining surgery centers, which handle a broad range of specialties such as sports medicine orthopaedics, obstetrics, cardiac, neurosurgery, vascular, and general surgery.

The division supports more than 50,000 procedures each year across 53 operating rooms and surgical suites, and its team includes 15 anesthesiologists and over 70 CRNAs. Both newly graduated and experienced clinicians can build proficiency across anesthesia subspecialties.

In this role, the CRNA provides anesthesia under an anesthesiologist's direction for a variety of surgical cases and diagnostic procedures, and also takes part in teaching nurse anesthesia students. All work follows the policies and procedures of the Department of Anesthesiology.

Candidates must hold a degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia program, as work experience cannot replace this education requirement. They must also hold current Alabama APN certification with a CRNA specialty, plus current ACLS, BLS through the American Heart Association, and PALS through the American Heart Association.
