A sign-on bonus of up to $22,500 may be offered to new hires who take a part-time position at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. Student registered nurse anesthetists who join the team may be eligible for a monthly stipend through an Earn To Learn program. The UAB Division of Community Anesthesia pairs anesthesiologists and CRNAs to deliver anesthesia services at several UAB St. Vincent's facilities, bringing an academic, evidence-based approach to community hospitals. CRNAs in the division work with considerable autonomy and collaborate closely with anesthesiologists and surgeons. Services are based on the Birmingham campus near downtown and in adjoining surgery centers that handle a wide range of specialties, including a busy sports medicine orthopaedic practice, obstetrics, cardiac, neuro, vascular, and general surgery. The division supports more than 50,000 procedures a year across 53 operating rooms and surgical suites, with 15 anesthesiologists and over 70 CRNAs, and offers growth opportunities for both new graduates and experienced practitioners.
The role involves providing anesthesia under an anesthesiologist's direction for varied surgical procedures and diagnostic tests, as well as taking part in teaching nurse anesthesia students. The position carries no on-call, weekend, or holiday requirements, though extra shifts can be picked up optionally.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nurse anesthesia program; work experience cannot replace this education requirement. Required credentials include Alabama Board of Nursing certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse with a CRNA specialty, along with current ACLS, BLS from the American Heart Association, and PALS from the American Heart Association.
