The University of Pittsburgh Physicians Anesthesiology Department at UPMC Passavant is seeking a full-time, non-exempt hourly Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The position is based at a 400-bed tertiary care center and offers a wide range of assignments, including spinal procedures and arterial line placement, across specialties such as cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, ENT, and neurospine.
Scheduling is described as Monday through Friday daytime hours with several shift options and guaranteed breaks. The posting notes only one beeper call every eight weeks, which falls on a weekend. Free on-site parking is also provided.
The posting describes a career ladder that lets CRNAs choose their areas of interest and earn financial rewards along a chosen pathway, with 87% of current CRNAs reported to have advanced on it. Other incentives mentioned include a tier program that raises salary at credentialed sites with performance-based annual increases, site movement incentives, an enhanced sign-on package with substantial bonuses and increased salary ranges, and relocation assistance.
CRNAs work alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary setting, and the employer highlights access to continuing education resources. The benefits package includes generous paid time off and paid parental leave.
Responsibilities include providing anesthesia and related care from pre-anesthetic preparation through induction, maintenance, emergence, and post-anesthesia care, while working under the supervising physician and following departmental standards. The CRNA monitors patient responses to sedatives and anesthetic agents, alerts the anesthesiologist to conditions that threaten safety, and is accountable for controlled substances under departmental, hospital, state, and federal rules. Additional duties include reviewing informed consent documentation, verifying the surgical site with staff and the surgeon, helping teach and evaluate newly hired CRNAs, student registered nurse anesthetists, and graduate registered nurse anesthetists, and contributing to quality improvement through documentation, incident reporting, and education.
