Full details
The certified registered nurse anesthetist joins an interprofessional healthcare team to provide high-quality anesthesia under a care team model. The role covers patients of every acuity level and age in surgical, obstetrical, and diagnostic settings. Candidates must be eligible for certification through the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists after graduating from an accredited nurse anesthesia program, and once certified, must be enrolled in the board's Continued Professional Certification program. Five years of experience is preferred, along with a strong grounding in anesthesia, perioperative medicine, and critical care. BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required, as is an active Maryland state license and compliance with state rules governing CRNAs.
Duties include pre-operative patient review and delivering anesthetics in every procedural area, such as operating rooms, interventional radiology, endoscopy, and Labor and Delivery. The CRNA selects and administers anesthetics, adjuvant and accessory drugs, fluids, and blood products, and manages airways and breathing through intubation, extubation, ventilation, and respiratory support. The position also involves preparing equipment and monitors, performing pre-anesthetic evaluations and interviews with documentation, and tracking patients' vital signs and other responses using invasive and noninvasive methods. Regional techniques such as spinal, epidural, caudal, and nerve blocks are performed or supervised once proficiency is established.
Responding to emergencies is part of the role, including airway management, emergency medications and fluids, and basic or advanced cardiac life support. The CRNA works with the attending anesthesiologist to build anesthesia care plans, obtains informed consent, reviews medical histories to anticipate anesthetic risks, and interprets diagnostic results such as x-rays and EKGs. After surgery, the CRNA evaluates recovery, addresses complications or requests consultation, gives post-anesthesia medications or fluids to support circulation, and discharges patients from recovery.
All staff are expected to uphold the organization's values of respect, excellence, accountability, teamwork, ethical behavior, and results. In practice, this means treating patients and colleagues with dignity, pursuing professional growth, taking ownership of problems, collaborating openly, acting with honesty, and working efficiently toward goals.
The pay range is $240,000.00 to $270,000.00. The final salary offer depends on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, and fit with organizational needs.
The employer is an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or other legally protected status.
